Ms. Julia Mae (Taylor) Marsh, age 91 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, NC.
The Obituary
Julia Mae Marsh was born in Chatham County to the late William Frank and Olivia Womble Taylor, on June 6, 1932. She departed this life on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina after an extended illness.
Julia joined Russell Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until her death. She held several offices in the church, including Church Secretary. She was the oldest member of the church and a blessing to those who knew her.
She was a graduate of Horton High School in Pittsboro, North Carolina and highly active with the Horton High Alumnae Association. She served as President for many years and most recently on the Board of Directors. She loved going to class reunions and seeing classmates, family and friends. She would dance all evening and have an enjoyable time for as long as she was able to attend.
Julia was married to Oliver Marsh for over 60 years. Together, they had a son, Vincent. They worked together and opened Marsh’s Restaurant in downtown Pittsboro. This became a popular place for youth to dance and others to discuss the events of the day. She was known for making delicious food and serving others.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, William Thomas Taylor and Theodis David Taylor; and three sisters, Sarah Frances Taylor, Mary Taylor Marsh, and Chloe Taylor Cooley.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Vincent Marsh of Sanford, NC; sister, Margaret Taylor Bynum of Chapel Hill, NC; one grandson, Jonathan Lee of Pittsboro, NC; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Jr. and Jeremiah, and their mother, Latoya Coley of Sanford, NC; a number of loving nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
